Wellington, Waterloo and the Defeat of Napoleon
On the 18th June 1815 at Waterloo in Belgium Wellington, commanding a coalition force of Allied armies, defeated Napoleon. The Battle of Waterloo brought to an end twenty-three years of warfare across Europe. With this remarkable victory Wellington achieved life-long fame and was showered with gifts from the grateful Crown Heads of Europe. Many of these gifts can still be seen on display at Apsley House. The exhibition will primarily focus on the day of the battle but will also consider Wellington’s legacy in popular culture. From the famous Wellington boots to the Duke’s face on the £5 note we will show some of the lesser known objects associated with Wellington and his famous battle.
Entry to exhibition is part of normal admission price.
